Parenting a type 1 diabetic child is hard work, and we applaud all the moms and dads out there who have to deal with this disease almost as much as we T1Ds do.
Wins & Fails
Jessie’s Win: Jessie took the extra 15 minutes before going to bed to change out her site that didn’t have enough insulin to get her through the night. It’s a great win especially when we’re really tired after a long day.
Colleen’s Fail: I wanted to go on a hike but encountered bad timing with a sensor restart and a site change. I decided not to go hiking to avoid a potential disaster on the trail, but I knew in advance I would be restarting my sensor that morning, so I could’ve just moved the planned hike before the day arrived.
Tip of the Week
Clean your dang finger before checking your blood sugar! You should always try to wash your hands before testing. Otherwise, use an alcohol swab or Purell. If nothing is available, wipe away the first drop of blood with a tissue and test the second drop.
Diabetes Spotlight
The FDA Approves Nasal Glucagon!
For those diabetics and relatives of diabetics who have ever had to administer (or think of administering) glucagon during a severe low or seizure, this announcement is a big relief.
The nasal glucagon is called Baqsimi:
“Baqsimi is the first FDA approved glucagon of its kind – it is needle-free and comes ready-to-use, requiring no mixing or preparation.”
