Learn more about time in range in kids with Dr. Jennifer McVean, Medtronic’s Medical Affairs Director and pediatric endocrinologist.

Time in range for kids is SO important, and that’s part of the new trial Medtronic is running with their hybrid closed-loop system. The trial is getting kids on pumps within a month of diagnosis.

Their hypothesis?

That getting on pump/CGM early can save beta cells.

Meet Dr. Jennifer McVean

Jen is a pediatric endocrinologist. After engaging in clinical practice in Wisconsin and Minnesota for 8 years, she joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 2016. Jennifer is actively involved with JDRF as a JDRF MN board member, volunteer, and national speaker review committee member in addition to volunteering as a staff physician one week each summer at the American Diabetes Association Camp Needlepoint.

Dr. McVean joined Medtronic as their Medical Affairs Director in January 2021.

Wins & Fails

Jessie’s Win: Jessie and some friends took a last-minute trip to Las Vegas! (This happened in November when this episode was recorded.)

Colleen’s Fail: I ripped out like two or three thigh sites in a row so I stopped putting them on my thighs for a while. The first one, I had to use a backup / spare site, so that didn’t eat into my supplies. The second one I still had my old site on so I just used that, and the third one I had to dig into my supplies so now I have an extra needle and cartridge.

Tip of the Week

When you’re traveling, make sure you know where all the pharmacies and grocery stores are around you.

Now It's Your Turn...

Our question for you guys this week is, what new and exciting things have you heard about Medtronic recently? What’s your experience with time in range?
