Crime scene investigator Haley Williams pulls back the curtain of forensics and shares her experience as a CSI with Type 1 Diabetes.
This is one of my favorite interviews to date. Haley shares her adulthood diagnosis story and how she takes care of herself with such a demanding job.
Haley also has a type 1 diabetes alert tattoo! She showed us during the interview and kindly agreed to share this picture for everyone.
Haley's dad also got a tattoo, but of the tiny little drops making up the big drop around T1D.
I'm on a waitlist to get my alert tattoo, and I'm champing at the bit for it.
Wins & Fails
Colleen's Win: I figured out how to bolus for some different food I’m eating coming off of my elimination and reintroduction diet, and it’s partly related to the hack. I ended up bolusing for total carbs plus a percentage of protein, about 30 minutes before eating, and that seemed to do the trick.
Jessie's Fail: She forgot to write down when she last changed out her insulin site, which affects her record of how fast she goes through supplies.
Hack of the Week
An oldie but a goodie: pre-bolusing for your meals. It lets the insulin start working before the carbohydrates hit the system, which means you’ll preempt a spike in your blood sugar—or, at least, a big spike. I still pre-bolus even though I eat low carb, because every bit helps keep my number flat and steady.
