How do partners handle T1D? My husband, Tim Mitchell, joins us to talk about how he handles my T1D as my partner. He is a cool cucumber with my ‘betes, and has some solid advice for other partners of type 1 humans.
Not all partners handle T1D as well as my husband does. My diabetes is basically a non-issue for him, but he shares some perspectives and advice that others with T1 partners will find useful.
Meet Tim Mitchell

Tim Mitchell is my husband, a chef, food blogger, house spouse, and chief moral support for dealing with my type 1 diabetes.
Our cat has him wrapped around her cute lil paws.
If you want to play Blizzard games with him, his handle is mightyjimoth#1813.
Wins & Fails
Jessie’s Win: Jessie made her list of things she needs to do before move-in day at MSU!
Colleen’s Fail:Insurance strikes again with deciding not to cover my preferred insulin. We’ll have an update for you next week on how that turned out.
Tip of the Week
If you are dating someone with type one diabetes then it is always a really good idea to carry around diabetes snacks and or supplies with you. This could be putting some stuff in your car or even having a spare fruit snack in your jacket. Even though it may not seem like a big deal, it shows that you are invested in your partner’s diabetes.
Now It's Your Turn...
How do you introduce diabetes to your partner? What were some of your partners’ questions for you?
